Namibia's central region, as applies to most of this country, is very arid.
While the center contains some beautiful bushveld, its western parts along the coast are
almost entirely dessert with some the highest sand dunes found on earth just outside
Walvis Bay. Distances between towns and villages can be hundreds of kilometers, so its
important to check your fuel before embarking on a trip. However driving these long
distances can be very rewarding for the nature lover.

Namibia's hiking trails offer the hiker a unique experience in that most go
through some of the most desolate yet beautiful areas the country has to offer. The
Namib-Naukluft National Park is home to exactly such trails that range from day hikes
through to the famous eight day Naukluft trail. Private game lodges or game reserves
such as the Daan Viljoen Game Reserve just outside Windhoek contains its own trails that
offer visitors a taste of the African bush.
