Situated about 25 km west of Namibia's capital of Windhoek on the C28 that connects Windhoek with
Swakopmund, the Daan Viljoen Game Reserve is one of the best places for camping and getting a
feel of the African bush in the Windhoek area.
The reserve is home to a number of antelope such as Red Hartebeest, Klipspingers, Kudu and Blue
Wildebeest, as well as over 200 bird species. There are also chalets and a restaurant.
The hiking trails allow one to explore the area on foot. They very in length from an hour or two,
to a whole day and take one though a variety of interesting areas, such as dried out stream beds
where one sometimes finds the skeleton of some animal that found its final resting place here.
The terrain itself is quite hilly as it forms part of the Khomas Hochland. Various gravel roads
leading through the reserve allow for interesing game drives with early morning and dusk being the
best times to spot the animals.
