The Bum Hill campsite is located just off the B8 main Caprivi highway on the western side of the Kwando river. It is easily accessible with an ordinary car. The rates are quite reasonable and the site offers ones own ablution facilities and an elevated platform about three or four meters above the ground for game viewing. A sandy camping spot is located very near the platform.

From our experience the Bum Hill campsite was one of the better ones in Namibia. The Solar hot water heater worked extremely well and the ablution facilities gave new meaning to the term, "Loo with a view"! The local boat tour operators seem to know exactly when someone is having a shower there and bring a whole load of tourists down the river just at the time when you are in the shower as the whole thing is open and facing the river!
The observation platform is really great for watching game and sunsets, and instead of staying in the tent we took our sleeping bags up onto the platform and slept under the giant Jackal-berry tree that protrudes in the middle of the platform. Although there are elephants roaming freely in the area, and we heard them at night, we never saw any.
The noise from the main highway gets a bit irritating at night though especially when the big trucks are slowing down at the river checkpoint, although it seems to get less later on in the evening.
