Poppa Falls is situated approximately 190km east of Rundu along the B8 highway leading through Namibia's Caprivi strip.
It is an ideal spot for a stopover for those travelling further to Katima Mulilo or south in Botswana and the Okavango Delta.
Actually, the word "falls" is not strictly correct. The Kavango River forms shallow cascades and turns into rapids rather than falls. The water is very clean due to the sandy river bed and the bottom can easily be seen.
For accommodation there are basic huts and camp sites. The visitors center contains a nice curio shop and basic supplies can also be bought here. A petrol station and restaurant are also available here.

There is no grass on the campsites, only gravel. Nevertheless there are many large trees around and the picnic area has some very nice lawns. The ablutions were clean and in working order. There are some short trails along the river and through the bush. The area has quite a few interesting bird species, so there is plenty for the avid birder. The clean warm water in the river make swimming another favorite activity. Although we never saw any, there are supposedly also a number of larger animals in the area such as lion, elephant and kudu.
