The Owl House is Nieu Bethesda's most famous landmark and attraction.
This was the home and birthplace in 1897 of Helen Martins. In her fifties after the death of her
parents she embarked on the transformation of her modest Karoo dwelling, using basic ingredients
such as ground glass bottles and cement. It is an amazing place to visit!
The walls and even some ceilings in each room of the house are covered with crushed glass and
paint. The windows also come in various colours of glass.
Outside is the Camel Yard crowded with sculptures.
