South Africa's Eastern Cape province was the birthplace of many a famous
South African. People such as Nelson Mandela, Steve Biko and Thabo Mbeki, came from here.
The province contains a long recorded history going back two centuries. From a
geographical point of view its north western parts are semi-arid Karoo that
progressively gets greener as one gets closer to the coast. Its hilly terrain and diverse
climate have allowed the development of many unique ecosystems.

Within its borders is the Tsitsikamma National Park which is a 80km strip
of almost untouched natural landscape. The Addo Elephant National Park close to
Port Elizabeth contains a large amount of big game such as Black Rhino and Elephant.
Along the east one finds what is called the "Wild Coast". This unspoiled area of hills
provides some stunning scenery, while the cities of Port Elizabeth and East London
contain numerous historical buildings and interesting museums.
