The Kututsa hiking trail is situated on the same road that leads to the Sphinx hiking trail. In
fact they are only a few km apart.
The base camp is an old barn next to a Polo field. There is a fair amount of climbing on the
trail on the first day. The area is typical of this part of the world and resembles the sandstone
formations one finds around Golden Gate. Once one reaches the highest point, one can see the
overnight rock overhang far in the distance. It's quite a large rock overhang as rock overhangs
go. They have put hay in the sleeping areas, for as everyone knows who has stayed in these rock
overhangs before, they can get very dusty. Water containers had been placed at the overhang for
drinking and cooking.
Day two's trail runs behind the first days trail and also has a fair amount of climbing.
Eventually day one and day two's trails meet up again before reaching the old barn base camp.
