The Bushbaby trail is the old Serendipity trail. Situated just north of Nylstroom / Modimolle, this 2 day backpacking hike is more suited to doing in winter as this area gets extremely hot and humid in summer.
The hike is not too strenuous with both days being about equal. Both the base camp and overnight hut have lovely settings overlooking valleys. There are a number of water spots and pools along the trail and at least one is big enough to swim in.
On the first day lunch should be had under the huge wild fig trees at the start of Eagle Gorge. There is usually water in the little stream next to the trees.
The trail goes through typical bushveld terrain with plenty of trees and shrubs along the way. There are some beautiful gorges and valleys that one hikes through on both days.

Although there are showers at both camps, there is no Donkey to heat the water. Wood can be ordered from the owners via the booking agent for braai's or sitting around a camp fire in the evening. The base camp is a double story hut. The overnight hut is divided into sections and open in front although a canvas can be rolled down across the front in case it rains. On both days the trail is not too long and one should really take the time to enjoy the scenery and have plenty of stops. On the second day there is a lovely rock pool for cooling off in.
