The Stamvrug hiking trail is situated in the Bateleur Nature Reserve west of the Limpopo town of Nylstroom / Modimolle. The trail can be done from either the Stamvrug or Kloof overnight huts. Both camps have wood fired donkeys / boilers for hot water, as well as bunk beds with mattresses and braai / barbecue facilities.
The area is hilly but the trail is not particularly difficult. There is a stream which usually contains some water on the Stamvrug to Kloof section. This section also has a lovely dam which can be used for swimming in summer.
The Kloof to Stamvrug section is much drier and also somewhat longer. The trail takes one through a combination of bushveld and grassland with the higher parts providing for some stunning views.

Both huts are very pleasant. The Stamvrug hut is situated on the one side of a big grassy plain which allows for some beautiful sunset viewing, while the Kloof hut is situated next to a small ravine at the bottom of which is a stream. Limpopo province gets quite hot in summer so take at least 2 liters of water with when doing the trail. It's a pleasant trail to do with a nice variety of scenery and vegetation.
