South Africa's North West Province was only created after 1994. Its northern border borders Botswana. Most of it is relatively flat with grassland and scattered trees. Its only real mountain range are the Magaliesberg. A mixture of crop, sheep and cattle farming is carried out here. Temperatures vary between 17 and 31 deg. C in summer to between 3 and 21 deg. C in winter. Most of the rain falls between October and April although it only averages about 360mm annually.

Around North West Province one finds a good number of Game Reserves, Nature Reserves and National Parks. These include the Madikwe Game Reserve, Pilanesberg National Park, Molopo Nature Reserve, and the Borakalalo National Park. A lot of the Game Reserves in North West Province are host to the Big Five. For entertainment there is the world famous Sun City Casino and entertainment center which also plays host to major Golfing events.
