Hidden in the rolling hills between South Africa's diamond city of Kimberley and Barkly West is a relic from an ancient past. Approximately 24km west of Kimberley along the R31, turn right onto the gravel road and follow it for another 8km. You will come across an old abandoned farmhouse to your right which more or less marks the spot.
Here approximately 250 million years ago, a gigantic glacier slowly moved across this part of Africa. Underneath the glacier were rocks, stone and gravel which were dragged over lava beds that themselves are estimated to be about 2500 million years old. This gravel carved deep groves into this underlying rock. Later the old lava beds were again exposed and the groves can still be clearly seen today.

There is a sign along the R31 indicating where to turn off. The gravel road was in a reasonable condition. Once past the old farmhouse drive for about another 50m. There is a small parking area to your right . At one stage there had been an information board on the Glaciated rocks at this spot. This has unfortunately been vandalized and destroyed. Nevertheless these reddish flat rocks are well exposed and the groves easy to see. There are also some San rock carvings on the lava beds, although there does not seem be any information as to their age.
