The Vanderkloof dam is fed by the Orange river and forms a border between South Africa's
Northern Cape Province and the Free State Province. It is the second largest dam in South Africa,
and was commissioned in 1977.
The area surrounding the dam offers visitors a number of recreational activities and
accommodation. There are various guest houses, lodges, and the Vanderkloof Holiday Resort
available for accommodation.
Next door to the Vanderkloof Holiday Resort is the Rolfontein Nature Reserve, which contains a
lovely day trail through the surrounding bush. The reserve is home to a variety of animals such
as Gemsbok, Rhinoceros, and Black Wildebeest.
Angling, water sports and boating may also be enjoyed on the dam. Tours of the Hydroelectric Power
Station at the dam are available.

If you would like to get away for a few days, relax, and enjoy some nice scenery, then consider
the Vanderkloof dam area. We camped at the Vanderkloof Holiday Resort, and had a wonderful time.
The area was very quite and green.
A stroll along the Pied Barbet Trail in the Rolfontein Nature Reserve was for us a great
opportunity to enjoy the bush again. We did not see any large animals but plenty of birds.
The little village of Vanderkloof has a few shops and petrol station for ones basic necessities.
