Montagu is situated along the R62 approximately 180km from Cape Town. This scenic little town is well worth a visit when in the area. There is enough to keep one busy.
The town center is dotted with old whitewashed houses, churches and museums. We also tried a little trail on the south side of town in the hills. A lot of flowers were out and the views across the valley towards town were very nice.
There are some good restaurants in Montagu as well which seem to be privately owned and give them their own flair. In addition one can do the Mountain Bike Trails, Rock Climbing or visit the Wildflower Garden.

There is a lovely holiday resort just to the west of Montagu called Montagu Springs which contains chalets, and so called villas. The resort also sports some hot springs. From here there are trails leading into the surrounding mountains.
Another place worth visiting is the Uitvlucht Winery which sells some of the best Muskadel we have ever had.
Besides showing visitors some of the history of Montagu, the local museum also sells herbs collected from the area for all sorts of ailments.
