Situated along the scenic R62 in South Africa's Western Cape province, the little Klein Karoo town
of Uniondale dates back to 1856 when the towns of Hopedale and Lyon were joined. It can be reached
by crossing the picturesque Prince Alfred Pass. The town gives one a good feeling of this part of
South Africa where sheep, goat and apple farming are the predominant agricultural activities.
Accommodation is plentiful many B&B's, self catering, and guest farms being available for a longer
stay.
The town is particularly well known for its ghost that is said to be that of a young women killed
in a car crash in 1968. The so called Uniondale Ghost is frequently seen hitchhiking a lift on
that stretch of road where the crash occurred.

Even if you only spend a few hours in Uniondale, its definitely worth a visit. The little cemetery
in town contains some soldiers graves from the Anglo Boer War period. The impressive stone church
in town is also very interesting to have a look at. Visit the Old Watermill which contains South
Africa's largest waterwheel as well as the millhouse, which now contains a art gallery and
restaurant.
