South Africa - Limpopo - Mateke hiking trail report

The Mateke hiking trail is situated in the Thabazimbi area on the banks of the Mamba river.
The camp consists of "tree houses" built on stilts and is surrounded by pristine bush. In the summer months, the Mamba river provides welcome relief from the heat. Bushveld plants abound in the area including several types of Acacias.
The two day trails wind their way through the hills and bush, and one can take ones time and enjoy the scenery at a leisurely pace as the terrain is not very difficult.

The Mateke hiking trail has quite good facilities although there is no electricity. Warm water is supplied by a so-called donkey. Although the facilities are for hikers, we ended up having 4x4 campers next to our Tree-houses which spoilt our stay somewhat with their engine diesel fumes and noise.
