South Africa - Northern Cape - Hondeklipbaai

Hondeklipbaai is situated on the West Coast of South Africa (Southwest of Springbok).
All the roads to Hondeklipbaai are untarred and sometimes very corrugated, and it might take very long with a normal car for the distance of roughly 130km from the N7 via the scenic Messelpad and Wildeperdehoek passes.
The coast line is rough with many rocks.
Along the West Coast you find quite a few shipwrecks, two are in Hondeklipbaai. The Aristea ran aground on the 4th July 1945, and the Jahleel that got stuck on rocks on the night of 1st August 2003.
The flower season, (around August/September but this depends on the rainfall) attracks many visitors to Namaqualand which Hondeklipbaai is part of.

In Hondeklipbaai there are only two overnight options, Die Honnehok Chalets and very basic camping (you have to pitch your tent on gravel). Make sure you get a booking for Die Honnehok Chalets BEFORE you go there! Also get your groceries and petrol filled up somewhere along the N7 as there is no petrol station and the shop has only the very basics. If you decide to go for a walk, just follow the "Honnehok" dogs, they will show you the way (and you might be joined by a whole crowd of dogs along the way!). For accommodation we can really recommend "Die Honnehok"! This little west coast village is well worth a visit!
